ZimMiki Injured Police Dog Fund
The ZimMiki Injured Police Dog Fund has been established as a non-profit means of assistance for injured K9s. In situations when logistical complications and valid budgetary limitations leave the police service dog without adequate financial support for expensive medical procedures, the Fund will attempt to provide monetary relief for the K9 team. This fund has been created for any police dog (with any department in the country) injured in the line of duty creating a situation where extensive/costly medical procedures have a reasonable probability of success. Procedures which provide significant long-term improvement to the canine’s quality of life. Often times when the police dog is injured, the department retires the dog due to overwhelming surgery charges. The dog then becomes the sole financial responsibility of the handler. This fund has been created with the primary intent of assisting the handler and the injured police dog. Even with the support of compassionate medical providers and various volunteer groups, there was no specific fund or organization intended to champion the cause of the injured K9 in need. This fund is the only one of its type.
The ZimMiki Injured Police Dog Fund came together through the following individuals; Robert Connolly, K9 Handler (Zim); Christina Force, K9 Handler; Steve Keen, K9 Handler (Miki), Rodney Oakley, DVM, DACVS, Mid-Atlantic Animal Specialty Hospital and Terry Walker, President, Calvert Animal Welfare League.
This fund is not intended to supplement any police department’s budget or responsibility to the police service dog, only to assist in qualified cases of financial need. The ZimMiki Police Dog Fund is not affiliated with any police department. This fund has been created through the Calvert Animal Welfare League which is a 501-(c)(3) organization.
The ZimMiki Injured Police Dog Fund has been created in the fighting
spirit of K9 Zim and in the loving memory of the fallen K9 Miki.
